Funkcja opiekuńczo-socjalna szkoły jest obecnie bardzo niedoceniona i jednocześnie
przerzucona na instytucje, które nie są w stanie zdefiniować ważności problemu. W artykule
zostały poruszone zagadnienia związane z szerokim tematem funkcji opiekuńczo-
wychowawczej w szkole zintegrowanej ze środowiskiem. Najpierw przedstawiono
najważniejsze pojęcia, takie jak: opieka, wychowanie, funkcja opiekuńcza, funkcja
wychowawcza. Następnie dokonano analizy przeobrażenia funkcji opiekuńczo-
wychowawczej szkoły na przestrzeni dziejów opierając się na „starej” i „nowej”
perspektywie. Dobre rozpoznanie szkoły, jako instytucji i zdefiniowanie funkcji opiekuńczo-
wychowawczej w perspektywie instytucjonalnej stanowić może duży potencjał dla
zmieniającej się oświaty w Polsce, a przede wszystkim dla dziecka, rodziny i środowiska
lokalnego.

Abstract (EN)
Currently, a school is regarded to be a nurturing, educational and instructive institution.
Polish society treats it as the institution responsible for the education of the young generation.
Furthermore, in common perception school’s primary function is to teach. Currently the care
and welfare at school are very limited. This article focuses on the issues related to the broad
theme of care and educational functions of the school integrated with the social environment.
The most important concepts such as care and educational functions are discussed. Then
the transformation of the education at school in historical perspective is analyzed.
Recognition of the school’s institutional dimension as well as being the care and education
provider may change the situation of a child, a family and a local community in the Polish
education system.
