This article provides a comprehensive overview of contemporary social pedagogy from a global
perspective. It analyzes the diverse paths of its evolution—from European roots, through emancipatory models in
Latin America, to alternative approaches in Japan and South Africa,,. The text discusses fundamental issues in
pedagogical diagnosis, emphasizing its distinction from medical diagnosis and the importance of a holistic
approach. It also presents six key misunderstandings surrounding the discipline, pointing to the need to redefine
the role of the social pedagogue in a risk society, where educational outcomes are treated as a relational property,.
