of Czech social pedagogy

Abstract

This paper shows how Czech social pedagogy, from its very beginnings, struggled for
emancipation. This is in the context of the country’s development and education in Czech
state. The author divides the history of social pedagogy into periods from the Moravian
Empire to the era of the Czech National Revival, to characterise the most important
personalities of those times. The author writes about thinkers, priests, statesmen, philosophers
and pedagogues, whose ideas enriched the development of the humanistic tradition of Czech
social pedagogy.
